Black Swallowtail

You have to look carefully to see the differences between this black swallowtail and the black eastern tiger swallowtail. One of the differences is the big dot on the upper part of the wing. The black swallowtail has the dot; the eastern tiger swallowtail does not have the dot.

I believe this is a female.

    I love your butterfly pic, Donna! My Dad has a butterfly bush near his deck and I loved all the butterfly visitors. Your zinnias still look nice....they seem to be fading around here.

    Thank you Sheri. The zinnias are okay for now, but on some of them, powdery mildew is striking. I received some organic fungicide in the mail today (finally, I should have ordered it sooner) and I hope to spray them tomorrow. =}

    I have seen a few of those around here. I really think they are beautiful.
