This is my old bicycle. I was 16 when mom offered me a choice — This bike or a high school class ring. Being a practical type of girl, I decided that a ring was useless to me, so I picked the bike. Rings can’t let you go fast down a steep hill, rings can’t give you a sense of freedom, rings can’t – well, I ran out of points.

I remembered that I have a photograph of the whole bike when it was new in a scrapbook that I kept when I was a teen. I even have the sold tag and the ad for the bike in the scrapbook. I updated the photograph here to paste on a cropped image of when it was new + my teenage legs and \\\’70’s striped shorts, can’t edit those out.

I had bell bottoms just like that in the early 70’s LOL
If I could figure out how to scan I would post it for you.
That is a nice bike!

LOL, "teenage legs" – I miss those!
I had a Free Spirit bicycle, too, except it was a hideous brown mustard color. At 16, I still loved my bike, but by age 17, I wanted the ring.
