I may have mentioned in passing that I have a Vitamix. Here is it in all of its shiny glory. It is an older model, the one with the stainless steel container with the ice cream spout.
The green soup that you see in the image is an elusive soup. It is Cabbage Leek Soup. I thought about posting a link to the recipe, but I could not find the recipe on the internet. It is a delicious soup, though one might not think it based on its name and ingredient list.
I served it one day December 2006 and that is when I took this picture. It is an appropriate color for December, is it not? That is about all that I wanted to say. Actually, I only wanted to show the colorful photograph of my Vitamix and soup. My cat will not leave me alone to type; he keeps reaching for me over the keyboard. There is no telling how many typos I am making.
Good Day!

Green soup……….uhhh……….well……….if you like it! 😛
Donna Young says
Yes, I like green soups as long as they aren’t starchy.

I just love the way your soup looks with your Vitamixer. You are right – it is very seasonal! Donna, did you know that your comment box goes straight off the side of the page and then loops around again? It’s like I’m typing in a great big circle, and I can only see half of it. I’m just going to keep typing for a minute because it is a very strange feeling. Where are my words going? What do they look like on the other side of this big circle? Am I making typos? Is the type green? What if the words are now in some alternate universe, one in which cabbages and leeks are purple? I have no answers to these questions. That is all.
Melanie says
Oh. 🙁 No alternate universe after all.
Melanie says
And there are purple cabbages in this universe anyway, so that was a silly question.
I’ll quit hijacking your blog now, Donna. 😆
Donna Young says
Melanie, the comment box enlarges off to the side when using Internet Explorer. With Firefox, it stays put. It is a flaw in the skin for which I have not discovered the answer.
It’s freaks people out a bit. Sometimes I get a comment which has lots of sentence breaks. Some refuse to take the chance and allow their words to go off into that alternate universe. 😆 I’m happy to see that you fear not! 😆 All is right with the world!
Donna Young says
I fixed the form, now it stays put in IE. The problem was in the stylesheet. It had a percentage assigned to the form width and I changed it to a set number of pixels. I’m so glad.
Tanya says
Donna, you are such a computer nerd! I just love you!!!
Elaine says
I have to agree w/Tanya on this one.
I also thought that your soup was an appropriate color for the coming holiday as well as the last big holiday. 😀

Sigh…a Vita Mix and green soup. You could serve that soup in a few weeks. 😀
sheila says
hmm… green soup? not sure about that… but I do love the vita-mixer…. I here them being advertised here on the radio (if it the same thing)I have always wanted one but I fear they are expensive… sigh.. maybe one day!!

Haven’t used my Vita-Mixer in a while, but I used to and I loved it. Mine is exactly like yours…stainless steel w/the spout. I have one major problem, we’ve recently moved and haven’t the foggiest idea of where my book is. I haven’t a clue how to make your soup or anything else. My grandchildren were w/us over the Easter vacation and I thought I could make them some cold carrot soup as that is about the only vegetable they will eat and it has to be raw. Have you any recipes or direction for me. I’m old and I’ve forgotten how I used to make things. thanks
Donna Young says
Vitamix has recipes listed at their website: Vitamix Recipes. Just check a box in the search form and it will bring up a list in the group that you checked.
The recipes listed are for the current Vitamixers that have more selections of speed. The older model has low, medium, and high and recipe adjusting will have to be done.

Wanted to say hi. Just found your site. I have been wanting a vitamixer for years now and more just reciently. Well my husband got me one for Christmas this year and I am so excited to try it out. Haven’t had time yet but will soon. 😀 I would have liked the 5200 but he got me the 5000 one. I would like to know how much of a difference that I will have. He had no clue that there were different ones. Will mine be as effective in basic things? Don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth so will be content with what my dear well meaning husband gave me. I am on weight watchers and want to use it for different recipies. Thanks so much for your site that I can come to with my questions. Alo thanks in advance for your help with my questions.
Donna Young says
Hi Donna, it is nice to meet you. I don’t have a clue about the differences between the 5000 and 5200 and if the differences really matter. Vitamix has a website, perhaps you can find out there.

Hello, I just found this, I was just given a vita mixer just like yours, with a wooden stick and a full cook book too. My mother in law just gave it to me! We are experimenting w/ it and having so much fun. I was trying to find out what year these were made. I’ll never give it up. The milkshakes and smoothies alone are keeping my husband and boys happy. Let me know if you have any ideas for me in my new adventure.
Donna Young says
Hi Lisa,
That is nice! Getting one given to you. 🙂 I wish I could remember what year I bought mine, but I can’t. I’ve had it a long time, probably over 10 years.
Have fun with it! I used to make coffee slushies with mine. It was easy, freeze double-strength coffee in ice cube trays. Then once use the frozen cubes with whatever ingredients that you like to make the coffee slushies. (such as: milk, cream, water, sugar, flavoring) It’s been a while since I made any, so I can’t remember exactly how much of what.
