July-Week 3, 07

My son John, 1991 outfitted to be serious. This is a busy time of year for me. I expect that I will be busier than normal up until mid-September. I will recount this week briefly along with some images from the week

The image of the little guy isn’t from this week, it is my son in 1991. He is dressed up. He looks serious in this image.

John and I This is John and I. I had to stretch to add the bunny ears. Sunday, my son set off for Japan and he arrived there on Monday. He is in CAP and he is participating in IACE (international air cadet exchange). We have heard from him recently and he is having a wonderful time in Japan. He will be there for 2 weeks.
Garden with Broken Sunflowers The garden is growing well. We are getting plenty of rain and everything is growing. It is too wet to weed. Several birds, American Goldfinch, Cardinals, and Tufted Titmouse, are feasting on the sunflowers. Squirrels are too, but they are breaking some of the plants. The sunflowers were planted for the animals, otherwise, I think the plant breaking would bother me a little.
Tomatoes The tomatoes are producing well. I have only two regular tomatoes plants and 3 cherry tomato plants. There comes a day when the plants produce more than you can eat in a day. That has happened with my tomatoes. Guess what’s for dinner.
Websites Mainly, I am working on my two websites. This time of year always demands updates on all dated materials. I will tell more about the updates later. Donnayoung.org has a list of recent updates on the home page.

It’s not been all work, I’ve taken time off to watch a different movie each day. Daily, I am exercising and keeping my daughter on task with her routine. She has Thursdays and Fridays off from most tasks.
Movies:
The Queen
Marie Antoinette
X-Men: The Last Stand :???:
Stranger than Fiction
The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi

  1. I love how John’s clip-on tie barely conceals Mario (Nintendo) on his sweatshirt.

  2. You have been busy. I like how John is dressed. He is a very serious boy. Thanks for sharing the pictures. The garden and tomatoes look great.

  3. Not only are his clothing choices serious, but his face lets you know that he does mean business!!!

  4. wow - all those tomatoes from only 5 plants - well done. I only had two plants and both died - I am afraid I am not good at gardening!!!

  5. Yes, he really could be serious, he was a serious little boy. :D I love that photograph of him, I chuckle every time I look at it.

  6. Good morning Miss Donna.

I love the two different pictures of your son. My older son was born in 1990, so similar time frame. It is amazing to see the difference when you put the two photos side by side.

A few of your movies sound really good. I’m thinking The Queen is one I saw advertised much earlier this year and want to see and had forgotten all about. I will have to see if Netflix has it… Okay, back. It is the one I thought it was and I added it to my Netflix queue. We’ll get that one next and then The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi. I just watched the preview for that and it looks really good! Thanks!

I’m so glad your garden is growing well. I love a beautiful garden. Have a wonderful Saturday! , Robin

  7. P.S. I just read your entry on Rose-breasted Grosbeaks! We love them here. We’ve had them for two years now, in April for two weeks each Spring. We had about six pair of them. I took some photos through my kitchen window: http://www.flickr.com/photos/robinismyname/page10/

They are *gorgeous*. We look forward to seeing them next spring!

  8. Robin, Grosbeaks are gorgeous aren’t they. They are funny to watch too! I looked for your bird photographs, they are lovely! :)

Robin since you have Netflix, you have access to some great movies. If you like The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi, then you might also like these old Japanese films (the old ones are some my favorite movies) that are set in feudal Japan Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Sanjuro, and then there are the ones inspired by Shakespeare: Ran inspired by King Lear and Throne of Blood inspired by Macbeth. :D

I should mention that The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi has exaggerated cgi blood and I don’t think the previews show that.

  9. Donna, I noticed the Mario shirt right away! He was a cutie then, and he is a cutie now.

I’m impressed by your tomato harvest! I finally gave up on mine. I’ll try again next year.

I felt the same way about all the movies you “reviewed.”

  10. Good Saturday Morning Donna.

Thank you for those suggestions! I am off to look at each now.

Beautiful morning here in the KY/TN area. 76 degrees! We may have to go try to photograph something today.

I hope your Saturday is filled with smiles and hugs from those you love. , Robin

  11. Those are great pictures. :D

I love the tomatoes. Next year I’ll have to make a point of starting mine much earlier.

The garden looks great. I need to get the updates for the site but I’ll probably wait until you’re done and do them all at once. :D

  12. What a great picture of you and your son! I love it.

Your garden is beautiful, too. Those naughty squirrels. They need to share with the birds. I am sure that the birds appreciate you.

I can’t say that I have seen any of the movies that you rated, but I think your rating system is great!

  13. Good early Wednesday morning, Miss Donna! We just got home a little bit ago from seeing my hubby in Clarksville, TN this evening. He is gone quite a bit on the road. We ate at Ryans and went to PetSmart and our old standby, Books-A-Million. We’re just so cool, you know, we closed the place down. We got a few photography books (a new one on weddings - I’m learning the ins and outs of wedding photography to be prepared for the first one we do) and another of the orginal Nancy Drew books to help complete our collection. I think we just have about 5 left to have all sixty something of them. We love books!

I wonder if the storms we are expecting are over your way. We have a chance of thunderstorms all week long.

Tomorrow I am going to try and be creative and blog something interesting. lol I mean today.

Have a wonderful Wednesday (((Donna)))! , Robin

  14. when you’re updating… you prob’ly know this but… I’m surfing for fraction information and manipulatives and your pdfs say that 1/6 is .0625 :(

I love this season and the garden!!!!!

  15. Thanks Sue, the error has been fixed.

  16. Hi Donna,

I just got on to your blog via your homeschool website….wow…a little overwhelming, but man a sigh of relief when I saw all the help and support I will be able to get without bugging all the people around me! I am trying homeschooling out for the first time this year with a 7th, 5th, and 3rd grader. It is super tough on my budget so I was just wondering what info you have specifically for jr. high as far as what they normally take, etc… I will only be able to buy curriculum in shifts over the next few months. Any ideas?

  17. Hi Donna!

I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your website! I just found that you had a blog! I used your website for handwriting and other activities all last year for homeschooling! And again I am returning for more homeschooling materials this year!

I just wanted to say, “THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!”

Now that I know you have a blog, I will probably visit occasionally, as well!

And about the tomatoes, I am in a serious dilemma if you are having an overabundance with 3 cherry tomato plants! I planted 10 cherry tomato plants and 7 slicing tomato plants. Our season is a bit behind this year due to the weather of early spring, so I am just now getting cherry tomatoes and green peppers. I guess I will find out in a couple of weeks how well I am going to be able to keep up with my cherry tomatoes!

    Blessings!
    Heather

  18. Donna,

I just wanted to tell you thank you for the homeschooling forms you have posted. They are very well done. I have posted a link to them on this page: http://www.howtome.com/?page_id=37

Again, I appreciate your willingness to share these. It’s one less thing to do and so refreshingly well done. Thank you.

    Sincerely,
    Sara

  19. Good morning Donna! You must, indeedy, be busy this month! I hope you are doing well. Hugs from hot HOT hot KY!, Robin
